FINRA tackles down to fintech industry launching new initiatives and fintech committee

14 June 2017

FINRAA self-regulatory organization Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. is launching its Innovation Outreach Initiative for the purpose of encouraging the interaction with the securities industry as it wants to better understand the financial technology sector. The latest move comes on the wheels of FINRA’s launch of a dedicated webpage focusing on new trends and innovations in the financial sector including blockchain and digital investment consulting services.

Robert Cook, CEO of FINRA, notes that their regulatory body has long been holding discussions about various questions in the fintech industry involving startups and other stakeholders. The new initiative will allow FINRA to have a stronger track of fintech events and key developments across the market helping to provide appropriate support to the industry and at the same time protecting investors and integrity of the market.

Within the framework of the new project FINRA assigned a special team of employees under the guidance of Office of Emerging Regulatory Issues and plans to establish a Fintech Industry Committee with further perspectives to hold regional roundtables and conduct researches.

FINRA also plans to conduct Blockchain Symposium on July 13 in New York to gather together regulatory authorities and market players for discussion of the distributed ledger technology implementation with associated challenges and possibilities.
