Deutsche Boerse considers cryptocurrency products offering

24 May 2018

Deutsche BoerseDeutsche Boerse, a Frankfurt-based marketplace organizer for the trading of shares and other securities, is in the process of reviewing the possibility to launch trading cryptocurrency instruments. The statement was made at the industry event in London this Wednesday by the group’s head of clients, products and core markets, Jeffrey Tessler, who noted that the exchange is deep at work with this matter.

Meantime, Tessler added that any decisive step into the new market is not yet feasible, as the firm wants to perform thorough analysis and study to ensure that they ‘understand the underlying transaction’, and this process is not very easy.

Tessler said during the event that the exchanges is not yet at the same stage as other exchanges, which have already announced the launch of Bitcoin futures trading.

He explained that Deutsche Boerse seeks to understand the volatility risks associated with the Bitcoin market and stay assured that the regulators along with the clients are all aligned before the exchange can move to an offering stage.

So far the exchange remains uncertain about its further steps in the area, it has already made some efforts in the blockchain industry, including the development of a new platform for securities lending on the basis of R3’s Corda blockchain technology.
