Apple Pay wallets may be used to redeem cashback rewards from Discover

DiscoverDiscover cardholders may now claim their Cashback Bonus and redeem them through Apple Pay. In its official statement Discover Financial Services, a Riverwoods-based financial services provider, reported that it has become the first major credit card issuer in the United States to provide its customers with an offering to redeem their rewards once they make a purchase using Apple eWallet.

Szabolcs Paldy, speaking for Discover, noted that now customers may easily claim their Cashback Bonus in a matter of two touches. Discover believes that customer experience is closely associated with mobile-oriented solutions like Apple Pay and this new option will make redemption of rewards even more convenient for cardholders.

To be able to use the new reward redemption method customers need an iPhone 6 or later, and a Discover card linked to the Apple Pay mobile wallet account with the wallet application to be of version 8.9 or higher.

The new announcement comes more than half a year after Discover unveiled its partnership with PayPal to provide the payment services company with access to Discover’s tokenization scheme. The deal enabled users of PayPal in the United States to make payments at the point-of-sales using a contactless transaction method.
